Welcome Year 10 - this is the post you will need to comment on for your homework task this week. In our lesson today we were looking at Brahman and the Hindu Trimurti. We also spent a bit of time exploring exam technique. When you write your comment, imagine that you are answering a Part e) question, but only for 6 marks not 12. (remember this is AO2 and is all about debate, discussion, different viewpoints and reasoned arguments.) Here goes!
'Trying to understand God is impossible.' Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer and show that you have thought about different points of view. Refer to Hinduism in you answer.
OK - so you will need to say if you agree or disagree with the quote. Feel free to bring in your own beliefs and opinions here. You will also need to give an opposite opinion. It is really important also that you talk a bit about Brahman (the Hindu supreme being) and the Hindu deities being aspects of Brahman. (remember the example of the sand?)
Good luck!
Ms Lucas
Personally think that it is impossible to understand god.
ReplyDeleteIn Hinduism it is impossible to worship Brahman the supreme ruler. So they break down the different aspects of god by worshipping different avatars of Brahman. They say understanding god is like counting every grain of sand on the entire earth I think that it is impossible to under God, because if you have knowledge about God it still won’t be enough. The amount of knowledge is infinite. There is so much knowledge about God, if we tried to understand all this knowledge it would take many year to learn. But mostly we wouldn’t be able to take the knowledge in because it is so detailed so in-depth that we wouldn’t be able to learn the meaning of god. it is virally impossible for us humans. i think it all depends on which relighion you are talking about, like if you are talking about the christian god then i dont agree because if god does exist then he must have wanted us to understand him or else people wouldnt have writen the bible and god wouldnt sent down jesus if he didnt wnt us to. but when you talking about the hindu god , brahman then i do agree because many people that trying to understand brahman is like trying to count all the grains of sand, impossible, so hindus use the different deities which are all different parts of brahman this helps them understand him a little. but in my opinion i do think it is imossible allthough i dont believe in god i think it would be impossible to understand him if he did exist because he does thing that confuse us and things that we dont understand, people make up reasons why they think he does these things but they will never fully know why.

I think that the christian god is easier to understand than Brahman because there are lots of different deities that all represent a different part of Brahman whereas the christian god is just one. There is so much to try to understand about Brahman that people say its like trying to count all of the grains of sand in the world which is impossible, however pretty much all there is to know about the christian god is in the bible so if you are christian and believe in god, you may find him/her easier to understand than a hindu does with Brahman, but we dont have proof that the bible is true or just a book of made up stories and there may be more to it than what is included in the bible. i think that god is impossible to understand because there is so much we don't know about him/her. ReplyDeletei think that trying to understand god is impossible as he/she is a higher more powerful and bonevolent being, and we can never hope to understand the worries and issues concerning a god.the hindus think of brahman, their single god, a being thousands of different deities to break down the complication of a god.the hindus mainly break him/her or it down into 3 main demi-gods called the Trimurti, who are symbolic to three things that happen in a universal cycle-the creator, the preserver and the destroyer.these are the main three things you would describe a god doing, but why, i dont think anyone will ever know.

I think its impossible to understand god because there isnt enough evidence to support the Christian or Hindu belief. However if I believed in god i think it would be easier to understand the christian god than the hindu god. This is because in Christianity there is only one god, but in Hinduism there are many different deites that each represent a different aspect of Brahman. There is way too much for people to get their heads around Brahman, that they say its like counting all the grains of sand in the world. Christians would argue that the bible and Jesus are their evidence, but how do we know that their not just made up stories? Flo Richardson.WG05.
ReplyDeleteI think it is impossible to understand brahman, however not as difficult to understand the christian God. God is split up into the father the son and the holy spirit whereas Brahman is split up into hundrends of aspects of it. Also there is the bible, which tells us about God, if we can read about God its a lot easier to understand the concept. I don't personally believe in a god, so have no need to understand it however i can see a christian or hindu would probably spend their lives trying to understand. Rose Clark, EG02
ReplyDeletei think trying to understand god is impossible because we don't actually know enough about him/her to actually be able to understand them. Hindus believe that trying to understand Brahman is like trying to count all the grains of sand in the world, which is impossible so they have hundreds of deities to represent the different aspects of Brahman. I think it’s still impossible to understand Brahman even though Hindus have split him/her up because there are far too many deities to remember. The Christian god would be easier to understand because it’s only split into the holy trinity; Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. But even still we dot know enough about god to fully understand them.

in my opinion i think that, its not imposibble bcuz if u have a religion ur more likey to follow/believe it & then u can find information about god from whoever.
ReplyDeletebut however if u are a hindu, u might belive in man gods/godesses so that might be difficult, but thats the fun part exploring ur religon.
in my opion its not impossible atall to beleive in god.
ReplyDeleteSome people have a different point of view.
People follow god and they are called theist and people who do not believe are atheist.
its your decision.
