Focus on Islam

Year 9 students have been looking at Islam in preparation for their GCSE Religious Studies course starting in September. One task was for groups of students to create poses illustrating quotes from the Qur'an - the Muslim Holy book. Students had to remember to not depict Allah or Muhammad as this is forbidden in Islam.

O you who believe! Seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient.

All people are a single nation.

Prayer carries us half way to God, fasting brings us to the door of His palace, and alms-giving procures us admission.

He deserves paradise who makes his companions laugh.

Whoever kills another one without justifiable cause, surely he is killing all of humanity. And whoever saves the life of another one, surely he saves the lives of all of humanity.

Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and be kind to parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, do not rebuke them, but speak to them in terms of honour and kindness. Treat them with humility, and say, 'My Lord! Have mercy on them, for they did care for me when I was little'.

Information, Blogs and Quizes.

This website is a really interesting resource. It contains information on all the six major world religions as well as many others including Taoism and Secular Philosophies. There are links to blogs from all different faith perspectives and for a bit of fun take one of their quizes to find out your faith and spirituality type! Although the site is based in the USA there is lots of relevent information that can be applied to the UK. The site also explores movies, news stories and relates real life happenings to religious teachings.
